Latin American Experimental Animation Favorites

For those of you who missed the Latin American Experimental Animation screening at Mini Microcinema yesterday, here are a bunch of my personal favorites from the show.

Overall the tone of the show was creepy, a little dilapidated or decaying, a little scary, but with genuinely beautiful moments.

Luis- Diluvio Animacion (Chile)

Luis is the 2nd short video of the series “Lucía, Luis y el lobo” (”Lucía, Luis and the Wolf”), it is a follow-up to the short video Lucía. The video was shot frame by frame with a digital photo camera. Materials: charcoal, dirt, flowers, found objects and cardboard.

Aedes- Quique Rivera (Puerto Rico)

(Adult themes)

“Aedes” is a cyclic animation that explores the relationship between various small objects: a syringe needle, a bullet, and money.

Violence, drug dependance and ambition are as transmissible as a disease on a mosquito bite.

Lucia- Diluvio Animacion (Chile)

Lucía is the 1st short video of the 2-part series “Lucía, Luis y el lobo” (”Lucía, Luis and the Wolf”). The video was shot frame by frame with a digital photo camera. Materials: charcoal, dirt, flowers, found objects and cardboard.

SiSiSISiSISiSiSiSiSiSi- Juan Camilo Gonzalez (Colombia/USA)

The never-ceasing repetition of polite gestures. A micro-universe is created in 4 sets of 11 pieces of paper with hand drawn animated cycles.

Immersed- Soledad Aguila (Chile)

A mysterious portrait of the beauty in decaying of natural wild life.

It was good seeing some familiar faces and meeting new people! If you were there, what did you think? Or what do you think of these?
